Emperor Tewodros ǁ who ruled Ethiopia from 1855-1868 has come to occupy a high regard amongst many Ethiopians. Examples of his influence are seen in plays, literature, folklore, songs and more importantly has come to symbolize Ethiopian unity and identity. To date the name Atse Twodros is a prefix whenever a discussion or an argument breaks out on matters concerning national unity as he had done a remarkable job of unifying the then divided Ethiopia defeating all the rivalry regional warlords’ who marked the gloomy “era of the princes” to the determent of the country, and modernization and technological advancement for he has been visionary enough and an architect of immediate social, political and economical reform no matter what his quest for a well civilized Ethiopia viewed as an act of insanity by his fellow countrymen and his energetic struggle to accomplish his dream caused the tragedy that took away his own life at last.
